Paint Jamaica is the incredible art & social intervention taking over Kingston’s streets, uplifting communities through democratic street art. Our artists create murals in unexpected places and in unexpected ways, with the objective to:
- Transform the visual spaces, shed light and bring more pride to marginalized neighbourhoods. All murals are inspired by the community: we interview and connect with local residents and hear what they have to say. Their words inspire our artists!
- Demonstrate the rich creative energy that exists in Jamaica: the country is overflowing with some incredible talent!
Paint Jamaica kicked off in July 2014 by a French traveler and a group of Jamaican artists. Together, we accomplished two projects in the inner city community of Parade Gardens: 41 Fleet St & Holy Family Primary School. Both initiatives were a first of their kind and entirely volunteer based, integrating people of all backgrounds- including the community, of course. Asides from painting, we also helped organized activities for the community such as BMX, Yoga, Capoeira, an ice cream day for the kids (thank you Kremi!) and a soup drive (thank you Island Grill!).
