A Music Festival in the Blue Mountains

The 2nd Blue Mountain Music Festival (BMMF) will be on Feb 21 – 22, 2015. It is a weekend of Jamaican music showcasing established and new artists and dub poets on the first day. Day 2 features rasta and mento drummers, dancers and and other cultural aspects as well as more music. Both days offer an array of Jamaican food from many vendors, and adventures in the beautiful blue mountains.

I went to the first one held last year. A shuttle from Kingston to the site in the Blue Mountains is included in the ticket. I camped. Security was great. That’s my tent on top and some others below.

I took hours of video and many photographs. The video below includes some clips from the first night. The performers included Chronixx, Third World, Jah 9, Raging Fyah and more.

The next morning, the Rasta Village Live was on the stage. You can hear some of their drumming here in the video.

It is cold in the mountains at night – jackets are essential. I was travelling alone and at all times felt safe. The Jamaica Defence Force has it’s training camp near the venue and the organizers also provided security for the campers. BMMF has a website from which you can get more information.

I definitely recommend this two day festival for a taste of the real Jamaica.
